Neuropsychology & Cognitive Testing and Evaluation

Clearer answers about memory, attention, and cognitive change

NeuroIntuition offers neuropsychological consultation and testing for concerns involving memory, attention, concentration, processing speed, language, executive functioning, and other thinking abilities.

Evaluations are individualized according to the patient’s symptoms, medical history, previous records, and the clinical question being addressed. Services may include a clinical interview, record review, standardized cognitive testing, scoring and interpretation, a written report, and feedback with recommendations.

Neuropsychology Consultation and Testing Plan

A focused consultation for patients who need clarification about whether neuropsychological testing is appropriate or what type of evaluation would be most useful.

This service may include:

  • Review of relevant medical records
  • Clinical interview or consultation
  • Clarification of the referral question
  • Recommendations for appropriate testing
  • Brief written documentation

When a patient proceeds with a full neuropsychological evaluation, the consultation may be incorporated into the evaluation package when applicable.

Brief Cognitive Screening Evaluation

A brief cognitive screening provides an initial overview of selected areas of cognitive functioning.

It may be appropriate for:

  • Mild or early memory concerns
  • Establishing a cognitive baseline
  • Identifying areas that may require further evaluation
  • Determining whether comprehensive testing is necessary
  • Monitoring cognitive changes over time

The service includes selected screening measures, scoring, interpretation, a brief written report or summary, and feedback.

Focused Neuropsychological Evaluation

A focused evaluation addresses a specific clinical question using a targeted testing battery.

This type of evaluation may be helpful for concerns involving:

  • Memory versus attention difficulties
  • Post-concussion symptoms
  • Cognitive changes after stroke or TIA
  • Attention-deficit concerns and differential diagnosis
  • Work or academic accommodation questions
  • Changes in concentration, processing speed, or executive functioning

The evaluation includes a clinical interview, targeted testing, scoring and interpretation, a written report, and feedback with recommendations.

Comprehensive Neuropsychological Evaluation

A comprehensive evaluation provides an in-depth assessment of multiple areas of cognitive and emotional functioning.

It may be recommended for:

  • Memory loss or possible dementia
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Epilepsy or seizure disorders
  • Stroke-related cognitive changes
  • Parkinson’s disease or other movement disorders
  • Complex neurocognitive symptoms
  • Functional capacity or disability-related clinical questions
  • Cases involving several possible contributing conditions

The evaluation may include a detailed clinical interview, review of relevant records, comprehensive standardized testing, scoring and interpretation, a written report, and a feedback session.

Complex or Extended Neuropsychological Evaluation

Some evaluations require additional time because of the complexity of the patient’s history or the amount of information that must be reviewed.

An extended evaluation may be appropriate when there are:

  • Extensive medical, educational, or occupational records
  • Multiple collateral interviews with authorized caregivers or family members
  • Complex neurological or psychiatric histories
  • Bilingual or special-population considerations
  • Multiple diagnostic questions
  • Significant documentation or reporting requirements

The anticipated scope of the evaluation will be discussed before testing whenever possible. Any additional services identified during the evaluation will be reviewed before proceeding.

What Neuropsychological Testing Can Help Clarify

Neuropsychological evaluation can help identify patterns of cognitive strengths and difficulties, clarify possible causes of symptoms, and guide recommendations for treatment and daily functioning.

Recommendations may address:

  • Medical follow-up
  • Cognitive rehabilitation
  • Psychological or psychiatric support
  • Workplace or academic accommodations
  • Safety and independence
  • Caregiver support
  • Compensatory strategies
  • Future monitoring or repeat testing

Medical-Legal and Forensic Requests

Clinical neuropsychological services are separate from forensic or attorney-directed evaluations.

Formal causation opinions, independent medical evaluations, legal capacity opinions, attorney-requested record reviews, depositions, testimony, expert witness services, and other litigation-related work require separate provider review and a separate written engagement.

Clinical evaluations may provide information relevant to functional or disability concerns, but they do not guarantee a disability determination, legal finding, insurance decision, or specific accommodation.
