An EEG (electroencephalogram) records the brain’s electrical activity. In-home EEG, also called ambulatory EEG, uses a portable device to record over a longer period, including sleep and daily activities.
At NeuroIntuition, Dr. Mahsa Pahlavanzadeh, a board-certified neurologist in Fort Lauderdale, can help determine whether in-home EEG is appropriate for your symptoms and evaluation.
For your consultation, meet with her in person or through a Florida video consultation when appropriate.
What Can EEG Testing Show?
A portable recorder collects EEG data while you are at home. Recording duration and instructions depend on the test ordered. EEG findings are interpreted alongside your symptoms and history; a normal recording does not rule out seizures.
When Can At-Home EEG Help?
This service is well-suited for patients who:
- Experience infrequent or unpredictable seizure episodes
- Need overnight recording to evaluate seizure activity during sleep
- Have difficulty traveling to a clinic for extended EEG recording
- Are being evaluated for epilepsy, unexplained spells, or sudden changes in behavior
- Need a longer recording that includes sleep or daily activities
EEG testing may help evaluate epilepsy, seizures or unexplained spells. Your clinician determines which test fits your evaluation.
Referrals, Preparation and Results
We review your symptoms and testing needs to determine whether an at-home EEG—recording your brain’s electrical activity during everyday activities and sleep—is appropriate for you.
- Referral Review: Have a referral or previous EEG results? Ask our team which records are needed and whether a consultation is appropriate.
- Preparation: If an at-home EEG is recommended, the technical team will explain equipment setup, preparation, recording duration and what to do during the test.
- Recording: Wear the portable EEG device and follow the study instructions during sleep and daily activities.
- Results: Dr. Pahlavanzadeh reviews the recording and discusses findings and next steps. Confirm with our team how and when results will be reviewed and shared with your referring clinician.
Contact our office during staffed hours for scheduling or to ask how to reach your care team between visits. Before recording begins, confirm which technical-team contact to use for equipment questions. Do not use the recording or callback form to seek emergency care.
EEG Costs and Billing
Equipment setup and EEG recording are the technical part of the test; physician interpretation is the professional part. Before you arrange testing, ask our team about the applicable charges, who bills each part and any separate consultation or results-discussion fee. Review our Fees & Scheduling information.
Need ongoing support beyond your EEG? Explore our optional membership for physician contact and care coordination. Membership is not required for EEG testing.
